Founded in 1967 by IFES General Secretary Stacie Woods, Schloss Mittersill was home to an intentional Christian community that hosted conferences and intensive courses until 2009. The Study Centre offered courses in Biblical and Cultural Studies in collaboration with Regent College (Vancouver), the University of South Africa (UNISA), and Die Gezellschaft für Bildung und Forschung in Europa (GBFE), a consortium of institutions based in German-speaking countries. In 2009, the community was dissolved and the buildings sold to a hotel developer.
