The Scuola Militare Teulié ("Teulié Military School") is a public lyceum offering both classic and scientific courses. It is one of four military schools of the Italian Armed Forces and one of the only two army military schools. Established in 1802 and located in the heart of Milan, it is hosted in a Napoleonic palace built on the very site of the old San Luca monastery of 1765. HISTORY The Institution received its name in honour of Italian general Pietro Teulié (1769-1807), who served the Kingdom of Italy under Napoleon I. Teulié’s life-long endeavour was to create a military orphanage in Milan. Forced to close its doors in 1943 due to the Second WW, the School was successfully reopened in 1996. Today, it is one of the oldest active military colleges in the world, with some 80 cadets graduating every year. ADMISSION Interested students can only be admitted through participation in a public concourse, yearly published by the Ministry of Defence, in the first trimester, for the subsequent school year. Students are given the military status of "Cadet" and are subject to the relevant legislation applicable to the Italian military personnel (D.Lgs. 15 March 2010, n. 66). CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES The curricular activities follow the standard ministerial program foreseen for the classic and scientific lyceum. EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Sport: mandatory sports activities are fitness and swimming; furthermore, cadets may elect to attend additional sports such as athletics, fencing, volleyball, basketball, riding. Military techniques: cadets are trained in self-defence/combat, firearms and shooting, first aid; in addition, at the end of each school term, cadets attend training campaigns, often hosted by the Alpini (Italian Army mountaineers).
