SDMed International Association, founded in 2004, is an international think-and-do tank for promoting cooperation on sustainable development in the Mediterranean and the Balkans. Main challenge of SD-MED is to promote the idea and practice of sustainable development through cooperation between players and stakeholders at various different levels focusing on : 1. terrestrial spatial planning and urban environment and sustainable construction 2. maritime spatial planning and ecosystem-based management 3. green infrastracture and ecosystem services based spatial planning, including in the urban context. SDMed orchestrates all territorial actors and players at various different levels (local, regional, national, European, international…) and civil society agencies active in sustainable development and sustainable construction issues.
SDMed Observation Planning and Eco-innovation, founded in 2013, is an international non-profit entreprise making SDMed community visions operational, by organising conferences, meetings, workshops, designing virtual learning environments on sustainable development on various spatial scales ( buildings, neighbourhoods, cities, regions, macro-regions …) and by publishing guides, roadmaps, policy papers and other methods and tools, following relevant research.
The SDMed research and action fields are numerous : sustainable building, eco-neighbourhoods, regional adaptation strategies to climate change, urban resilience, maritime spatial planning, land-sea interaction, ecosystem-based management, blue economy and maritime clusters, silver economy, green infrastructure and ecosystem services, nature-based solutions, management of natural and cultural heritage...
