The Secretariat for the New Development Paradigm’s (SNDP) role is to coordinate all activities related to the New Development Paradigm (NDP) initiative and the preparation of the reports for submission to the United Nations.
Bhutan’s NDP initiative is part of the worldwide effort to help define a new and more viable post-2015 global development agenda. The NDP is grounded in the principles of Gross National Happiness – the unique vision of human development first proposed by the 4th King of Bhutan in 1972 when he declared that “gross national happiness is more important than Gross National Product.”
SNDP will also brief and work with different sections of Bhutanese society on the NDP and a deepening discourse on GNH in Bhutan. In doing so, the intention is also to bring GNH more directly and practically into the economy and society of Bhutan by learning from practical policy-relevant best practices around the world that this body of work on the proposed NDP will investigate.
The Secretariat works under the auspices of the RGOB and is based in Thimphu, Bhutan.
