The program exists to provide seniors with something interesting to read and to foster a sense of connection and community between seniors and the public. However, there will never be any personal information shared with members of the public without the consent of the senior and the care home.
Initially, care home staff will register interest from the seniors present at the care home. They will then send us the number of seniors interested in this project. Once our website is launched, members of the public will be able to submit letters via an online form as text or a picture.
We will vet these letters to determine the most suitable ones. After these, we will print these letters and mail the requested number to the care homes. These letters can be distributed to the seniors or read in groups by care workers to the seniors.
If a senior is interested in writing back to a community member, they will then request the address of the member of the public, which if the care worker deems this appropriate will be relayed to us. We will then facilitate the passing on of this address to the care worker.
However, there will never be any pressure to write back. This incentive is mostly to allow seniors to read about interesting things and understand what is happening in their community in a safe and no-contact way during this difficult time.
