Shaishav—meaning "childhood" —is a civil society organisation established in 1993, dedicated to empowering children from marginalised and underprivileged communities. With operations in the slums of Bhavnagar city and tribal villages of Narmada district, Shaishav adopts a rights-based approach, working alongside children, to co-create safe and child-friendly learning spaces that promote their education, play and holistic development. A cornerstone of Shaishav’s methodology is its emphasis on children’s participation; rather than viewing children merely as beneficiaries, Shaishav recognises them as active participants in decisions that affect their lives. This unique approach of placing children at the forefront has been transformational, giving them a platform they never had before, to express themselves freely and reach their full potential. Even today, many of these children, now adults, continue to embody the values they learned in their childhood through Shaishav.
