Big Shift in India’s EV Policy: PM E-Drive Scheme Launched! ⚡
The Government of India has announced the PM Electric Drive Revolution In Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme, replacing the longstanding FAME programme. With a strong focus on two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and buses, this initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in India, but excludes electric and hybrid cars from support.
Key Highlights:
- ₹10,900 crore allocated for the next two years
- Support for 24.79 lakh electric two-wheelers, 3.16 lakh electric three-wheelers, and 14,028 electric buses
- Introduction of e-vouchers for EV buyers and an 88,500 EV charging stations initiative
- Special provisions for e-ambulances and e-trucks
- Intercity & interstate e-bus operations in major cities, with demand aggregation by CESL
- Focus on reducing upfront costs of e-buses through a Public-Private Partnership model
