Siempre Salud USA and its sister organization in Peru, Asociación Siempre Salud, are nonprofit organizations which create and measure impact of sustainable systems of food and #nutrition, #preventivehealth, #primarycare in, if, and byhat assists low-income Latin American communities to develop systems of prevention, early detection and primary care that target the most common causes of severe disability and early death. Asociacion Siempre Salud in Peru is our foreign non-profit organization that implements all of our program services in that country. We are in the process of organizing Siempre Salud in Argentina.
Three southern coastal desert communities in Peru and Siempre Salud created a system to prevent heart attacks, strokes and cancer which are the leading causes of premature adult mortality in Peru. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity are leading contributors to heart attack and stroke. The most common causes of cancer deaths are cervical and stomach cancer. We created programs for cervical cancer prevention and early detection of diabetes and hypertension and provided primary care through clinic and home visits. The cost of this highly targeted and mobile system that is light in infrastructure is $3.50 per household per month. In Argentina we will develop systems on a larger scale that will be targeted to communities' unique health priorities.
