Sisters at Law was founded by human rights lawyer Marini de Livera who also holds the post of Chairperson of Sisters at Law. We have received our registration (L-172712) as a non-profit organization in Sri Lanka in early 2020 to provide legal assistance to survivors of gender-based violence in Sri Lanka. We organize women empowerment projects, run a safe shelter, provide livelihood support and run legal awareness workshops. We help women, girls and families who are affected by various types of abuse and other dire life events. We also support young female lawyers and students on their journey into the profession and for them to blossom into exemplary lawyers who make this world a happier place.
At the heart of Sisters at Law's mission lies a dedication to providing Pro Bono Legal Services to those who need it most – women and children who are survivors of crime. The organization recognizes the vulnerability of these individuals and acknowledges the pivotal role legal advocacy plays in restoring their sense of security and dignity. Operating with the collaborative efforts of Attorneys at Law, dedicated Staff, and passionate Volunteers, Sisters at Law has established itself as a formidable force against the shadows of abuse.
