The term "Skellig" is gaelic/Irish which roughly translates to "splinter of rock in the sea" and is the name given to two small uninhabited islands off the southwest coast of Ireland. One of the islands is home to a lighthouse and a centuries-old monastery. For many that departed Europe by boat over the past several hundred years, the Skellig Islands were the last land they saw before crossing the pond to America.
