The Skills for Inclusive Growth (S4IG) Program is an Australian Government initiative with the Sri Lankan State Ministry of Skills Development, Vocational Education, Research & Innovations. S4IG aims to contribute to sustainable job creation, increased income and business growth for marginalized and disadvantaged people, particularly women and people with disabilities by showcasing and demonstrating skills development innovations and replicable models across the tourism value chain supporting inclusive growth.
Strategic Area(s) of focus
Provide technical assistance and support for change in the skills development system supporting inclusive growth in tourism. Support partners to implement new models and innovations that can improve the performance of both the tourism sector and the skills development system through the following Innovative skills development Models:
1. Enhancing Public Private Linkages for Workforce Development
2. Skills for Destination Development
3. Coaching Skills for Business Improvement
COVID-19 response measures
Prepared a COVID recovery strategy which supports small business with professional business coaching, and introduces online training that promotes multi-skilling, upskilling in 3 languages (Sinhala, Tamil and English) with NAITA and FCCISL, and introduces e-tourism/marketing to enable business to develop direct communications with customers and provide updated information about their services. S4IG has developed and rolled out a Pandemic Preparedness Training Course with Ministry of Health and Ministry of Tourism (SLTDA) to support small business comply with regulations and be able to manage and deliver services and be able to bounce back better.
