Slum Light Community Initiative is a community based organization (CBO) focusing on impacting lives of slum residents in the informal settlements in Nairobi, Kenya. These residents have low income hence not able to meet their basic needs. Therefore, the CBO is focusing on supporting Education of the vulnerable Children, WASH programs, vulnerable Family support, Climate Change Programs, Law & Security .
The idea of forming the CBO originated from one member who was brought up in the slums, got educated, secured employment in Nairobi and acquired a space within the informal settlement. In an effort to give back to the community, he donated the space to the community and acquired first funding to construct a faculty to serve the residents of the slum. The facility is the main WASH centre for neighboring residents and has conference facilities where inhabitants’ meetings take place. This centre of convergence serving common interest necessitated the formation of a CBO.
