The Smart Hospital Project is funded by the Montreal Children's Hospital Foundation. The project will transform pediatric care at the Children's and beyond, with main outcomes including 1) develop wireless monitoring that will benefit all types of patients at the Children’s; 2) promote the monitoring of patients at the Children’s through a wireless system; and 3) harness the power of cardiorespiratory signals by using automated signal processing and machine-learning tools to transform monitoring data into potentially life-saving information.
The project involves a multidisciplinary team of neonatologists, biomedical engineers, clinical research professionals, and graduate students in Experimental Medicine and Biomedical Engineering.
The project ultimately aims to bring the Montreal Children's Hospital to the forefront of the ever growing information age by advancing it toward a wireless "Smart Hospital". Its efforts towards wireless vital sign monitoring of young patients will serve as an important model for other children's hospitals in Quebec and Canada in the long term.
