Somali Disaster Management Agency -Sodma

Somali Disaster Management Agency -Sodma company information, Employees & Contact Information

The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) was established on August 3, 2011, following a drought that struck Somalia, displacing tens of thousands of families from their homes. These families flooded into major cities across the country, lacking shelter, food, water, and medicine. The official announcement of the agency’s establishment came after a decision by the Council of Ministers and a Presidential Decree, which was later approved by the Federal Parliament of Somalia through Law No. 17 on June 27, 2016. Between April 2017 and July 2022, the agency was part of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the Federal Government of Somalia. However, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) was reactivated on August 17, 2022, after the ministry was dissolved to address the severe humanitarian situation in the country caused by consecutive seasons of reduced rainfall, leading to a severe drought by the end of 2021. This reactivation aimed to respond urgently, despite inadequate rainfall.
