The objective of Unit 6 is to support researchers in the development, characterization, and large-scale production of molecular biomaterials with controlled nano-, micro-, and supramolecular structure.
For the production, purification and concentration of nano- and microparticulate materials, the unit counts with different high-pressure production plants, a microfluidic system and tangential flow filtration systems. One Key-Enabling-Technology (KET) available in this unit is a simple one-step methodology (DELOS-SUSP), based on the use of compressed fluids (CF) such as CO2, for the preparation of particulate materials with precise and reproducible structural characteristics at nano-, micro- and supramolecular levels (size, shape, internal structural gradients, supramolecular organization, and crystalline purity). This KET represents one of the singularities of this unit, counting with CF–based plants at different scales (from mL to L), which allows process scale-up and process development based on Quality-by-Design (QbD).
The characterization capacities comprise ... size, zeta potential and particle concentration of coloidal nanoparticle dispersions using Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis (equipo concreto) and Dynamic Light Scattering (Zetasizer ZS and Zetasizer Ultra), and of microparticulate materials using laser diffraction (MasterSizer2000). Different modules are availabe for the characterization of fluorescent samples. The characterization of biomolecular interactions can be carried out using Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (nombre equipo) and Surface Plasmon Resonance (nombre equipo). The unit also counts with a multimode plate reader to perform absorbance and fluorescence assays (nombre equipo).
The NANBIOSIS Unit 6 works under the ISO 9001 Quality Management System Certification.
