The label ‘Sohni is the craftsmanship of its designer Sohni Makkar who has been creating and designing since 2000 in the tricity of Chandigarh. Her idea was to introduce something that was stylish different yet comfortable for the working women. She came up with block prints tie and dye and patch work slowly the range expanded to formals wedding trousseau as well .Most of her clothes are made from natural fabrics and all the dyes are extracted from vegetables. There is complete range of ready to designer wear suits tunics and kurtis then the line of ethnic sarees was incorporated. She has her team of artisans who work with her on the designs dyes and prints for each outfit. Sohni believes in natural fabrics in different cottons weaves in natural dyes and block prints from all over the country. Bagh prints from Madhya Pradesh Bagru Daabu Ajrakh from Rajasthan and Kalamkari blocks from Andhra Pradesh are sourced and used by the artisans. Her collection adds up to eclectic traditional and wearable clothing for the discerning customer who comes back time and again for the creations which are stylish different yet comfortable. The studio ‘Sohni is situated in the plush inner market of Sector 8 Chandigarh spread over 500 sq ft. Its hard not to recognise the floral booti patterns on the walls and woodwork from ‘Sohnis block-print fabrics. The mustard coloured wall on one end adds colour to the vibrant corner that stocks handloom fabric coordinates.
