Somali Youth Leaders (SYL) is a group of young professionals committed to developing Somali youth and encouraging their active involvement in the growth, stability, and democracy of their nation. SYL was established by young change-makers in 2020 with a mission to address the high demand for education and offer a secure environment for young people to learn and develop life skills. SYL was previously registered by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation of the Jubaland State of Somalia in 2020 and the extended its mission to Federal level registering by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports in 2023.
SYL provides youth and adolescents with a wide range of opportunities, such as formal and informal education programs to improve literacy and numeracy, job-seeking assistance, training for a living, the development of small and medium enterprises (SME), and entrepreneurship initiatives that promote economic survival, civic engagement, and social cohesion. SYL empowers young people by providing them with the knowledge and skills they need to realize their full potential while guaranteeing equitable participation for boys and girls. The firm creates asset-based interventions and demand-driven solutions through strategic partnerships that assist young people in finding fulfilling employment, gaining access to capital, and taking on leadership roles in their communities.
SYL actively involves all parties involved in youth development, including businesses, foundations, international organizations, local authorities, and youths themselves.
