Founded in 1959 by Gerald and Dulcie Wickremesooriya as 'The Children's Bookshop': originally selling Children’s books & imported vinyl records.
The company established ‘Sooriya’ label in 1968, the pioneer in producing popular music in Sri Lanka.
Through the 1970s and 1980s, the label went onto record music across various genres; Pop, Baila, Traditional Folk Music, Traditional Drum Rhythms, Theatre Music, Sinhala Light Classical, Children's songs, Religious Chantings.
