Spartan Mambo is a salsa dancing team at San Jose State University.
Founded in September of 2010, Spartan Mambo has grown to become one of the most successful college salsa programs in the US. The team has performed at salsa events across the country, including the San Francisco Salsa Congress, Las Vegas Salsa Congress, and Sonoma County Salsa Festival.
The team has competed and won titles in numerous competitions, including the US Salsa Open Championships, Las Vegas Salsa Congress, San Francisco Salsa Congress, and World Latin Dance Cup. Spartan Mambo is consistently at the top of the competition at the annual College Salsa Congress competition and is the only college team to hold a title at the World Latin Dance Cup.
In 2014, Spartan Mambo also started a bachata team by the name of "Spartamiento" which competed at the World Latin Dance Cup and took 4th place in the Amateur Bachata division against international competition from Canada, Australia, and Mexico.
The goal of Spartan Mambo is to enrich the lives of SJSU students and the community through performance salsa dance. Spartan Mambo is an officially recognized Club Sport at SJSU.
