OUR MISSION is to address the systemic underachievement of high-ability pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds by harnessing the expertise of retired teachers across the UK to run weekly tutoring and mentoring sessions.
Spire Hub sets up weekly Hubs in secondary schools in disadvantaged areas. We work closely with schools to target the right year group and students and design a programme together to address their specific needs.
Each Spire Hub session brings together targeted high-ability students with qualified teachers and high-achieving young Mentors from the local community. Each session includes mentoring, and a 20-minute one-to-one tutorial with each student's Tutor.
Our curriculum focuses on three interconnected areas: ensuring students are on track to achieve top GCSE grades; developing their life skills and emotional intelligences such as confidence and resilience and developing their awareness of higher education and careers options to foster higher aspirations.
Spire Hub aims to set up Hubs in every town and city across the UK. By using retired teachers we can reach students in key areas of educational disadvantage where other interventions have struggled to reach, such as coastal towns.
