We are a biotechnological startup committed to create solutions to impact climate change, animal abuse, and humanitarian issues around the world. We fight for those who can´t, we research & develop for those who can´t and we encourage us humans who can; to create novel solutions based on nature´s intelligence and our capacity to bring that intelligence to market; through sustainable products and innovative circular business models. We cherry-pick the world’s greatest minds and we recruit them for a new purpose, based on a shared world view. “Planet Earth is perfect, our world is perfect, we don’t need to change the world, we need to take care of the world improving our society” The first solution that we are developing to improve the market is Sporatex, our mushroom-mycelium-based leather, the sustainable substitute to animal and synthetic leather. We chose leather as our first improvement for society because it impacts all of the three big areas: 1-. Climate change: The textile industry is the second most contaminant industry in the world and leather is at the top 3 most polluting textiles according to the Higgs index. 2-. Animal abuse: More than 1.000.000.000 animals are killed for their skins in an extremely unregulated process, that not only involves cattle, but also, zebras, elephants, snakes, kangaroos and, more… 3-. Humanitarian issues: In Bangladesh, due to exposure to chemicals (many of which are carnogenic) and accidents, tannery workers (many of them children) are not expected to live beyond the age of 50. In developed nations studies of leather tannery workers in Italy and Sweden found cancer risks “between 20% and 50% higher than expected”.
