Stand with Syria Japan (SSJ) is a human rights and humanitarian organisation founded in 2017 to support Syrian victims and survivors of mass atrocities. As the first and only NGO in Japan dedicated to Syria, SSJ has consistently raised its voice against the defunct Assad regime and stood in solidarity with Syrians demanding freedom, dignity, and justice.
Our work focuses on documenting human rights violations, especially enforced disappearances and torture, and advocating for international accountability. SSJ amplifies the voices of survivors, collaborates with Syrian grassroots groups, and brings Syrian-led justice demands into Japanese and international forums, from public campaigns to high-level conferences.
Through strategic partnerships in Syria, Japan, and Europe, we deliver humanitarian assistance, support families of detainees and the disappeared, and raise awareness of the values, hopes, and sacrifices that continue to drive Syrians in their pursuit of a free and just future. Our offices in Tokyo, Damascus, and Aleppo reflect our commitment to working across borders and staying close to the communities we serve. SSJ’s approach combines rigorous research, survivor-centered advocacy, and public education with direct support for rehabilitation — including job training and social integration programs for survivors and the families of the disappeared — to help rebuild lives and restore dignity.
We will not stop until justice is served, the disappeared are found, and the aspirations of those who paid the highest price for freedom are honoured.
