Stella’s School was named after its Founder and first Principal, the late Mrs Stella Litherland. In 1969, she started the school to provide a British type education for children of expatriates living and working in Brunei Darussalam. Initially, the premises were at B2, Jalan Tapak Kuda, Bandar Seri Begawan and it opened for students to enroll in nursery classes. Classrooms were in an open-aired area, accommodated underneath stilt house. The students would sit on long table benches.
The Late Mrs Litherland wanted to provide students with a solid foundation in reading, writing and arithmetic. Soon after the school began, word started to spread and in just two years enrollment doubled. Since its opening. the school’s dynamic educational environment has continued to evolve.
