En Mi Salsa is founded in order to give disadvantaged Maya-women and children in Guatemala the opportunity to have a better future. En Mi Salsa offers them socio-economic opportunities that cause structural improvement of their lives.
Our projects:
1. Maya-women handicraft cooperative Ut’z Bat’z
We support this cooperative in Chichicastenango which aims to provide poorly educated Maya-women with an income through the sales of fair trade handicraft products. We provide trainings in working techniques, empowerment and business management.Our goal is to achieve independence for the cooperative within three years’ time.
2. Scholarships for children
We support talented Guatemalan children by providing them with scholarships for private schools. This higher level of education will equip them with a better chance of securing employment in the future. Furthermore, the number of school leavers from private schools is much less than for state schools due to a good system of guidance. Thus, they have the possibility to escape the vicious cycle of poverty. We provide the children and their parents with constant support and manage their funding.
