Stichting Leeuw

The foundation's goal is to take in big cats and, where possible, relocate them to the most natural environment possible with the highest possible level of animal welfare. The animals that are taken in, for example, come from private individuals, are former circus animals or animals rescued from war situations. Due to new laws and regulations, predators are allowed to perform in fewer and fewer countries. As a result, there is often no place for lions and tigers. Their owners then look for a place where they can grow old in a quiet and peaceful place. Stichting Leeuw is such a place. The shelter of Stichting Leeuw consists of a large central hall with a hunting simulator and educational areas surrounded by indoor and outdoor enclosures. This hunting simulator is unique in the world and through this system Stichting Leeuw wants to give hunting back to the big cats. They also become physically stronger and faster and that ensures better muscle building, flexibility and agility. The animals always participate of their own free will, they are never forced to do anything. If a lion or tiger is in good condition, they will be relocated, if possible, to an environment that is as natural as possible at the sanctuary of our sister organisation The Lions Foundation in South Africa, located at Schrikkloof Nature Reserve. In addition, Stichting Leeuw participates in species conservation programs to contribute to the survival of the species in the wild. The shelter in the Netherlands, located in Dierenpark Hoenderdaell in Anna Paulowna, is open daily to visitors of the park.
