Named in memory of the late Geordie actor Sammy Johnson, the Trust provides grants, mentorship, and creative opportunities for aspiring actors, musicians, writers, and other artists across the region.
The legendary Sunday for Sammy shows, known as the "Geordie Command Performance," have become a cherished biennial event in the North East. These sell-out performances bring together the best of North East talent, featuring a unique blend of comedy, music, and theatre with some of the region's most loved performers. Each show is a celebration of Sammy's legacy and a major fundraiser for the Trust’s charitable work, with proceeds directly supporting grants and programmes for up-and-coming artists.
The Sunday for Sammy Trust has invested close to £700,000 supporting young people getting into the creative industries and helping them achieve their aspirations. The Trust’s Chair is actor Tim Healy, supported by fellow trustees and its administrator and show producer, founder Lindisfarne member Ray Laidlaw.
