Sweden is a highly industrialized, high-tech and globally connected country in the north of Europe. Its 10 million people mainly populate the country’s southern parts and its long coastline. This leaves vast areas of untouched nature for exploration and recreation. Its people and companies combines high-skilled production with care for both the environment and society at large. Sweden’s economy and business are praised internationally: the second most innovative country in the world in 2019 and the second best country for business in 2019. The capital Stockholm is leading - only after Silicon Valley - in the number of billion-dollar tech companies per capita. The city is ranked second only to London as the most influential Fin-Tech hub in the world.
Combining economic development with social and environmental sustainability, Sweden is well on its way to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). And in 2017 it was named the best country for women. It is a generous provider of international development aid to poorer countries, allocating 1 per cent of its economy (GNI) every year to international aid.
Sweden has long been a reliable partner to Qatar and the two countries enjoy excellent relations. Sweden opened its embassy in Qatar 2014. Since September 2019, H.E. Anders Bengtcén is Sweden’s ambassador to Qatar. Qatar opened its embassy in Stockholm in 2015.
