The Swiss Democracy Foundation SDF offers platforms for discourse on the resilience and further development of democracy and plays an important role in the national and international exchange of knowledge on (direct) democratic systems and infrastructures. One of the Foundation's focal points is the promotion of democracy education, the culture of democratic debate and the support of young initiatives in the field of democracy promotion.
The SDF looks back on thirty years of engagement in democracy promotion on a national and international level since the late 1980ies and was formally established as Foundation in 2016. The Foundation is registered as a non-profit and tax-exempt organisation in Lucerne and is under the supervision of the Swiss Federal Supervisory Board for Foundations ESA. Since 2022, the professional office is located in Bern, Switzerland.
