The Swiss Physical Society (SPS) promotes the exchange of knowledge among physicists by organising conferences and participation in scientific events, as well as publishing its own member journal SPS communications and a monthly SPS Newsletter, which is sent out electronically. The main objective of the SPS is to provide all those interested in physics with access to the current state of science and to exchange ideas with experts. It also makes the expertise of its members and the SPs committees on physics issues available to decision-makers in politics and industry in Switzerland as a research location. Particular attention is paid to the professional promotion of grammar school pupils, students, young scientists and physics teachers at all levels. In order for the SPS to be able to fulfil its demanding fields of activity as a non-profit professional organisation, it encourages all persons interested in physics in Switzerland and abroad to become personal members.
