為強化金融服務的廣度，提供客戶更多元的金融服務，中信金控積極規劃跨入保險事業的經營，2011年11月併購美商大都會保險金融集團（MetLife, Inc.）在臺子公司100%股權，2012年1月更名為中國信託人壽保險（股）公司（以下簡稱「中信人壽」），正式跨足保險事業領域。
中信人壽在2014年1月1日完成英屬百慕達商宏利人壽保險國際（股）公司臺灣分公司併購案後，取得近千名業務員部隊，保險銷售通路更趨完備。為擴大旗下保險事業規模，中信金控於2015年5月12日經董事會通過與台灣人壽保險（股）公司（以下簡稱「台灣人壽」）股份轉換案，並於2015年10月15日完成股份轉換，台灣人壽正式成為中信金控100%持股之子公司。為有效整合資源並擴展壽險業務，中信金控於2016年初完成子公司台灣人壽與中信人壽合併為「台灣人壽」，創造中國信託與台灣人壽雙品牌加持的綜效。
台灣人壽為臺灣第一家壽險公司，於1947年成立，並於1998年邁向民營化。落實在地深耕的台灣人壽，以提供保戶全方位保險服務為出發，持續關注市場之變化，藉由靈活、具創意的商品策略，提升公司之營運績效，提供保戶健康、財富與保障的全方位防護網，並以有價值的商品推展，維持公司長期而穩定的獲利能力，使保戶與公司都得到穩健而具體的保障。
