Takis Shelter is a no-kill, no-cage shelter in the island of Crete, Greece. The situation in post-crisis Greece is really bad for dogs and cats, with millions of them roaming the streets. Takis build this shelter single handedly 6 years ago and started saving stray animals from the street. The shelter right now has reached its capacity and is home to 350 dogs, 50 cats, 7 goats and 2 sheep and more come in every day. Takis is especially known for taking in animals that everybody else would put to sleep. The shelter is considered a role model in how animal shelters should be. With no cages, chains or euthanasia.
