The Tandem Laboratory is an accelerator laboratory dedicated to radiocarbon dating and materials research. As a Swedish national research infrastructure we are a unit with department like status within the Faculty of Science and Technology at Uppsala University.
The Tandem Laboratory maintains a unique infrastructure within the Nordic countries with broad capabilities in accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS), ion beam materials analysis (IBA) and ion beam modification of materials (IBMM). Four particle accelerators deliver ions to in total eleven end stations enabling a plethora of different techniques. Accelerator-based methods are complemented by a number of smaller set-ups providing further possibilities for sample preparation and analysis as well as material growth.
As a national research infrastructure we have the mission to serve the Swedish academic, industrial and public sectors with world-leading ion-beam based materials research. Specifically, we offer user access to:
• non-destructive characterisation of materials composition and structure on the nanoscale;
• ion-beam induced modification of materials and precise tailoring of material properties;
• ultrasensitive mass spectrometry for medicine, biology, archaeology and geology.
Transnational access to our facilities can also be gained via several programs within the Horizon Europe framework funded by the European Commission. Please find more information about user access on our website.
