A lot of people ask us, what is Tapri? Where does the name come from? What is the relevance behind it?
Our Tapri journey begins years ago with a family holiday to Mumbai, India. Whilst there we went to a stall on the corner of a street where a man was serving tea. People kept calling him “Tapri-wallah”; we have all heard the term Chai-wallah (meaning someone who serves tea) but this was a new one for me. Tapri means “tea-stall” in Marathi but it was so much more than that. There was no dress code, no division; people of all walks of life were there, just enjoying this delicious cup of chai.
This is the essence of what we want Tapri to be. Not just your typical bar or a restaurant but a place where everyone can come and enjoy, families and friends alike.
Since that holiday we have opened several coffee shops under the Tapri banner over the last 10 and now out of the ashes of this pandemic the world has endured, we are chancing our hand at bringing you the proverbial phoenix that is Tapri Indian Bar and Grill. We have just opened our second Bar and Grill concept in Gornal Wood and we intend to open at least 25 sites by 2025.
