Taxila Central College company information, Employees & Contact Information

Taxila Central College, with its origins dating back to the Horana Buddhist English School founded in 1905, has evolved over a century to become a prominent educational institution. Originally established as part of the Ceylon Buddhist Theosophist movement, the school started on a small plot of land donated by Sathis Wimalasekara. In the 1930s, it was relocated and renamed Taxila Buddhist English School. The demand for government takeover and transformation into a central college led to its rebranding as Taxila Central College on June 6, 1946, under the patronage of Minister of Education C.W.W. Kannangara. The school's evolution continued with the construction of 54 central colleges across the country in the 1940s due to educational reforms. This period marked a significant step toward social mobility. The college saw several principals, including Thomas Newton Silva, Mr. H. Y. De Silva, Mr. Edmond Dias, Mr. A. R. Erathne, and Mr. Jayaweera Bandara. Minister John Kotalawala played a vital role in the successful completion of the college's relocation in 1954. Notable milestones include the expansion into above-grade-six education after the venue change, the introduction of science studies, the establishment of laboratory facilities, and the initiation of Advanced Level Science studies. Dedicated leadership, such as that of Mr. E. D. K. Abeysekara, brought about improvements like the construction of a hostel and the development of physical resources. The college achieved recognition for academic excellence, consistently producing outstanding results in public examinations. It secured the district's top rank in Advanced Level Examinations almost annually since 2002. The G.C.E. (O/L) examination results consistently exceeded 99% since 1996. The 2020 examination showcased exceptional achievement, with numerous students receiving high grades. Presently, Taxila Central College is commemorating 75 years of academic success.
