Teaching for Heroes is a non-profit organization founded during the COVID pandemic. Initially, we focused on providing free English lessons to children of COVID first-responders. As thousands of volunteers joined, however, we decided to make the platform accessible to all students under the age of 13. Thousands of students joined within a matter of months.
Through various media outlets, we attempt to attract English-speaking volunteers across Kazakhstan, most of whom were studying abroad. We accept anyone 16+ years-old with an excellent understanding of the language and who can devote 3+ hours per week to the initiative. Our lessons aren't formal. Thanks to our broad base of volunteers from over 15 countries, we attempt to match our students' interests with those of our teacher-volunteers, designing the course specifically for each student. As of 2021, we have over 4,000 students and over 1,000 volunteers. You can join our initiative by signing-up on our website!
