Teaming up with Hawijah emerged following the 2015 Dutch F-16 airstrike in Hawijah, Iraq, encouraged by a desire to strengthen a connection between Dutch and Iraqi youth communities.
The discussions between Dutch and Iraqi youth started in October 2023. Inspired by this collaboration, came the recognition of the absence of accessible libraries in Hawijah. This non-political initiative aims to establish libraries to enrich educational opportunities for the local community by gathering books and raising funds.
Working closely with Hawijah's local educational institutions like the Technical Institute and Victoria Academy, the project attempts to provide vital resources for learning and personal growth. Both organisations have available areas where these libraries would be set up.
By fostering partnerships and mobilising resources, the goal is to empower individuals in Hawija through enhanced access to educational materials and facilities.
