Girls Plus encourages girls in youth villages (in Israel's social and geographic periphery) to participate in STEM education and fulfill their personal potential in these fields. The project exposes them to the variety of disciplines within the technology world and gives them concrete knowledge. It engages the girls with women professionals from science, technology, industry, or academia who serve as role models. The role model's stories inspire and encourage the girls to engage in STEM disciplines. They help in breaking psychological and social barriers and ultimately help engage the girls with technological and scientific professions. In addition, though Technovation (the world’s largest technology entrepreneurship program for girls aged 10-18 that runs across 100+ countries), the girls also work with mentors to find a problem in their community, develop a mobile app that responds to the problem, and launch a startup. Project teams participate in the Annual International Technovation Competition while shortlisted teams travel to the International competition in San Francisco.
The project's overall goal is to provide a growth-based environment and a safe space for girl students in Atid Plus Centers to engage in STEM education and provide the girls with an opportunity to develop 21st-century skills, a future-oriented mindset and will ultimately develop STEM careers.
