The Abbey Centre is a vibrant Westminster community and conference centre supporting local communities to improve their quality of life.
We are an independently constituted charity established in 1948 to serve the residents of south Westminster. The charity also manages, and operates from, a multi-purpose centre called the Abbey Centre generating funds for community projects through conferencing and catering services including a cafe.
ACAL aims to: a) reduce social isolation; b) prevent future physical and mental health problems amongst vulnerable communities by improving health literacy and promoting healthier lifestyles; c) reduce health inequalities through direct provision of culturally appropriate health and wellbeing services; and d) provide tailored training opportunities to improve employability of communities that experience barriers to the job market.
The charity focuses on the needs of particularly disadvantaged communities, such as ethnic minorities, older people at risk of social isolation, and residents experiencing the negative health impacts of worklessness and low income. We also promote social cohesion and connectivity amongst our diverse local communities through volunteering opportunities, and multi-generational activities. ACAL is a community hub for south Westminster.
