Welcome to The Big Decolonization Dialogue, where we discuss how different development themes are related to decolonisation. Throughout this series, we’ll be talking with academics, activists, and practitioners to collectively reflect on how to better wear this lens both in our research and everyday lives.
So, Who are we? A group of PhD students from different parts of the world across three universities in the UK engaging in transdisciplinary research around water, sanitation and hygiene. And because we are also crazy about challenging power inequalities globally, we have all joined a student-led Academic Inequalities Working Group - we’ll cover more on that later!
So, why decolonization you ask? Cuz guess what! Almost every 6 days, a country celebrates its independence from its colonizers! which means, whenever you are listening to this, there’s a high chance that a country is celebrating its independence from structures of exploitation and oppression this week - these structures which are still in place today. And we firmly believe wearing a decolonization lens is the way forward to address these historical and current injustices.
With this context, join us in this collective journey of liberation where we bring in our experiences from Brazil, India, Germany, and the UK! And we are sure, you will love our speakers as much as we do!
