The aim of the Black Achievers Awards is to recognize and promote the achievements of our BME community. Black Men and Women have experienced many years of negative press and we aim to change this by showing the local community that there are real positive black role models out there. Merlita Bryan is the Councillor for the Arboretum Ward in Nottingham. She is the former Sheriff of Nottingham in 2022 but was also the Sheriff in 2012-2013. In 2013-2014 she was the Lord Mayor of Nottingham. Her vision first started off in 2011 when she launched the Black Achieving Males Awards (BAM). Over the first three years she awarded black men in the Nottingham community for the work that they did and how they portrayed themselves in the community. Coming onto the 12th year of the awards, this will be the 10th official year of hosting the awards and she continues to award and promote not only positive males, but also females as they too show positive steps to take in life. We have expanded our reach to those within the areas of:- Nottinghamshire Leicestershire Derbyshire Staffordshire Worcestershire Herefordshire Shropshire Warwickshire Please support her in her journey of making events like this grow every year to promote positive role models to the younger generation.
