The Chelsea Symphony

The Chelsea Symphony company information, Employees & Contact Information

Hailed as “a daring orchestral experiment” by Chelsea Now, The Chelsea Symphony presents music of the highest caliber while upending the traditional hierarchy of the classical orchestra: our musicians rotate as featured soloists, conductors, and composers. Through this collaborative model, we provide professional development opportunities for our members while performing inspiring concerts of music both old and new. The Chelsea Symphony’s musicians come from varied backgrounds, and many have studied at top programs such as the Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Curtis Institute of Music, Mannes College of Music, the University of Michigan, Indiana University, and the Hartt School. TCS conductors have gone on to win positions with the National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre nationale de France, Virginia Symphony, Naples Philharmonic (FL), and the Orquestra Sinfônica do Theatro da Paz (Brazil), among others. Since its inception in 2005, The Chelsea Symphony has collaborated with many noteworthy artists, including Gerard Schwarz, Mark O’Connor, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Clay Aiken, and Stephen Schwartz. The orchestra’s Tenth Anniversary Season in 2015-16 featured debuts at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music and Merkin Concert Hall, and regional premieres by Caroline Shaw and Toru Takemitsu. Musicians from The Chelsea Symphony can be seen in the Golden Globe-winning Amazon Original Series Mozart in the Jungle. For more information, visit www.chelseasymphony.org.
