In 1995, inspired by her father's inability to read, the music icon, entertainer, philanthropist Dolly Parton, launched her Imagination Library to foster an early love of reading in her hometown by gifting high-quality, age appropriate books to children from birth to age five at no cost to their families. Today the international programme operates in 5 countries: USA, Canada, UK, Australia and Republic of Ireland. Enrolled children from birth receive 60 books by the age of 5. In 2023, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library gifted it's 200 millionth book since the programme's inception. As of 2024, almost 3 million free books are gifted each month to children around the world - every 1.07 seconds!
The Dollywood Foundation UK was established as a charity in 2007 and operates as one of the international divisions of the US-based charity, The Dollywood Foundation. Since 2008, The Dollywood Foundation UK has worked with community partners and sponsors to bring the Imagination Library to children in all four UK nations, and in the Republic of Ireland since 2019. In 2023, UK celebrated it's 15th Year Anniversary and 5 Millionth Book gifted milestone! Shared funding is provided by Dolly Parton's UK Foundation and by local community partners, organizations and individuals.
