Simone Lackner is a multidisciplinary scientist specialized in Complexity and Systems, a cultural professional with roots in performance art and founder of the consultancy The Empathic Scientist.
As ReMO Ambassador and the founder of Soapbox Science Lisbon, We and Climate Circle and Salon Luminosa, she is an empathic advocate for Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Wellbeing in academia and beyond.
After more than 15 years of working in different disciplines, in eleven institutes, across five countries (Austria, Singapore, USA, Japan, Portugal) - as a female scientist and first generation academic - Simone Lackner is strongly aware of the struggles and challenges one faces to progress in a scientific career. She observed and experienced how the academic research culture impacts not only the wellbeing of individual researchers but also the dynamics within research teams and the success of a research institute retaining and sustaining excellence in science. She started to study the available research on this subject, confirming that there are recognized crucial issues in the academic system that need targeted action urgently.
Simone Lackner gives keynote lectures, participate in panel discussions, act as a consultant or conflict mediator and facilitate science-based workshops on resilience, agency, emotional intelligence and non-violent communication as well as burn-out prevention using artistic processes.
