The intensification of dairy farming has been a concern of ours for many years. Conventional dairy farming, much of which is industrial, is facing an unprecedented crisis on multiple fronts. An alternative approach is now desperately needed. Our big idea? We’ve developed a new method of dairy farming that keeps the calves with their mothers to suckle.
Forcibly removing dairy calves from their mothers within hours of birth is driving a surge in veganism. The Ethical Dairy keeps cows and calves together, prioritising animal welfare and environmental sustainability to produce milk that can be no more expensive than conventional dairy.
Our ethical dairy model is based around treating the animals, the land, our environment and the people who work here with respect and kindness. The Ethical Dairy is still at an early stage, but it’s already led to huge reductions in the use of antibiotics, increases in biodiversity and healthier, happier cows.
Our goal is a sustainable, high welfare, low impact, ethical food system with widespread potential.
