The Loan Project Overview

Taking loans & giving loans fuels the economy but if you look around, you will find there are hardly credible knowledge centres around loans & lending. Where as we have tons of literature, videos & tutorials on mutual funds, equities, insurance sectors. But Indians are taking loans for purposes which was unheard of even as far as 5 years ago. In todays market purchases of INR 500/- can be taken on loan. But the biggest irony is that our financial literacy is already poor, even by RBI’s own admission less than 35% of us are financial literate. This easy access to debt coupled with poor literacy is a recipe of disaster. Not only we are at risk of getting into debt traps but also at risk of having our future savings potential degraded while facing increased cost of future credit. Coming to the ‘lending’ part of the problem. Lending according to me is like ’Tribal Science’ - there are no books which one can read and become street smart lender. Its the grind which makes us better lenders. But with industry facing extreme competition & practically zero differentiation, youngsters are facing ‘baptism by fire’ kind of scenario. For a new age lending business to be successful & sustainable in todays market - it not only requires that a lender covers all right bases wrt to technology but also needs to follow basic tenets of lending. This makes next generation lender's jobs only harder. With The Loan Project we aim to provide relevant knowledge & right tools to both set of stakeholders - borrowers & lenders to be successful.
