The Natural Step Israel (TNS Israel) is a non-profit organization established in 2012 to foster a sustainable society in Israel by building a resilient food system. Our approach is centered on three main areas of action:
1. Identifying Gaps and Market Failures: TNS Israel's research department conducts studies to inform policy, public opinion, and food system resilience and sustainability practices. We tackle market failures, like dynamic pricing for short-shelf-life products, and promote innovation in the food-tech and agri-tech sectors.
2. Leadership Development: Recognizing the need for strong leadership in both routine and crises, TNS Israel developed the "Shikma - Sustainability for Decision Makers" program. This initiative equips leaders across all sectors of Israeli society with the knowledge and tools to prioritize sustainability in their decision-making processes.
3. From Field to Plate: TNS Israel takes a holistic view of the food system, engaging all stakeholders in the journey from food production to consumption. We organize 'Masa' events to merge sustainability with culinary arts and culture. During the Iron Swords War, we launched the 'Israeli for Blue and White Agriculture' initiative to support local agriculture, reduce food waste, and encourage local consumption. This initiative operates at national, regional, and surplus produce levels, emphasizing direct sales and digitization. Additionally, Our National Food Waste Reduction Week, initiated in 2019, aims to raise public awareness and promote sustainable habits.
TNS Israel also collaborates with government agencies, businesses, and organizations to develop practical solutions for the entire food value chain, particularly focusing on upstream solutions to benefit both farmers and consumers.
