Founded in 2009, the rubberbodies collective (rbc) are an established multi-disciplinary artist collective. The collective places emphasis on innovative artistic productivity and collaboration with the international artistic community.
The collective’s repertoire consists of theatre productions, site-specific performances, concerts, plastic arts exhibitions, publications, films and installation works. Where possible, the rbc promotes new experiences and creates opportunities, supporting the art scene, through collaboration and contribution.
Historical research and ideas of “who we are”, influence rbc productions, including the performances, ‘Old Salt’ (2012), ‘Lore of the Sea’ (2011), and ‘White Sea’ (2010), all mutually influenced by Malta’s Maritime history. Other works include the video installation, “The Liquid Shark Tooth”, and the performance installation, “Dun Karm”, both produced in 2011.
In 2012, the rbc co-produced collaboration ‘Penelope: Dust in Our Awakened Dreams’, with Greek contemporary dancer Athanasia Kanellopoulo. They also hosted an exclusive seminal “silent concert” at the Ħaġar Qim Temples, a UNESCO world heritage site, where sound designers and composers, Mario Sammut (rbc) and Aes Dana (Lyon, France), performed side by side. The collective also exhibited their first interactive video installation and interactive performance, ‘-hEx: inverted geometry’, as a part of Malta’s 2012 ‘Science in the City’ Festival;
