THE TANKS is an award-winning proposal to incorporate adaptive-reuse as a part of the future 27-acre Bushwick Inlet Park, along the Williamsburg waterfront. In an effort to capture the creative ethos and reflect the rich industrial history of the neighborhood around it, THE TANKS proposes breathing new life into a series of decommissioned fuel containers and transforming them into everything from performance spaces to greenhouses. The idea springs from an awareness that Brooklyn's waterfront heritage and the local creative community are being wiped away at alarming speed. THE TANKS are poised to achieve the acute community need for green open space while also serving as a dynamic, interactive, and educational piece of the future park that speaks to Brooklyn’s past, present, and future.
