The Carmichael House was built by John Robert (J.R.) Carmichael, a prosperous businessman and buggy maker, as a home for his family of 11 children. The prestigious Atlanta architectural firm of Bruce and Morgan was selected to design and construct the mansion. Construction began in late 1897. By summer of 1898, the imposing Queen Anne Victorian home was completed for the sum of $16,000.
Located in Jackson, Ga just minutes from I-75, the Carmichael House is easily accessible from Atlanta, Macon and all points in middle Georgia. It is also conveniently located near Indian Springs State Park, Georgia’s oldest state park, High Falls State Park and Dauset Trails Nature Center. The Carmichael House is on the National Register of Historic Places and is one of the finest examples of Queen Anne Victorian architecture in the state.
This sprawling home has a grand entryway complete with opera hole, 16 rooms, 10 fireplaces, seven baths and four porches. In addition to the main house, the cottage has three rooms, one bath and two fireplaces. The original smokehouse and barn make up the rest of this historic landmark. Each room is unique with original mantels, magnificently detailed woodwork, and huge windows that offer breathtaking views from all angles of the home. The stained glass radiates Victorian elegance while the 12-foot ceilings embody old world charm.
The Carmichael House has a long and important place in history and was recently purchased by the Garrett and Beck families. Their vision of renovating the House and grounds has been a labor of love. We want to share our beautiful “Pink Lady” with others who will recognize her beauty and unique qualities. We are excited to host all types of events including weddings, reunions, picnics, holiday parties, and corporate meetings in these graceful and inviting environs. The grounds also include the Event Hall, a gazebo, pond, tranquil garden, and ample room to wander and enjoy the beauty of this inviting mansion.
