Gender-based violence (GBV) or violence against women and girls (VAWG), is a global pandemic that affects one in 5 women in their lifetime. violence against women and girls(VAWG) is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in our world today.
It remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it.
It manifests itself in diverse forms such as Sexual violence and harassment (rape, forced sexual acts, unwanted sexual advances, child sexual abuse, forced marriage, and street harassment).
While gender-based violence can happen to anyone, anywhere some women and girls are particularly vulnerable. For instance, In schools, one in 5 university students have experienced sexual assault at least once in their lifetime. This is one finding from the 2021 National Student Safety Survey (NSSS) report.
It happens on and off campus and is rarely reported. Whether on or off campus, a majority of perpetrators were known to the victim through their university. This has significant implications for victim-survivor’s safety and well-being in their ongoing studies.
violence against women continues to be an obstacle to achieving equality, development, and peace as well as to the fulfilment of women and girls' human rights. All in all, the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to leave no one behind cannot be fulfilled without putting an end to violence against women and girls.
THEIR VOICES FOUNDATION (TVF), a non-governmental organization intends to provide solutions to all these striking societal problems via the following objectives:
1. Educating the local population and the general public on the right of a girl child. Building a human rights culture.
2. Providing safety means through which victims can report cases of violence to acquire justice.
3. Providing counselling to victims who have been exposed to any sort of violence.
4. Exposing victims to financial opportunities for empowerment
